DeepCure is searching for a creative, resourceful, and integrative thinker for a founding role in our San Diego-based automated chemistry group. As a Scientist/Senior Scientist, you will join a team at the heart of applying our transformative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation platform to discovering novel therapeutics.
The successful candidate will plan and implement creative scientific research at the interface of synthetic organic chemistry and modern laboratory automation through conducting laboratory experiments. Additionally, this may include timeline and resource planning, reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data, and providing regular updates with critical input on project results. An innovative mindset and ability to thrive in a dynamic startup environment is essential. This is a strategic growth area of critical importance for DeepCure and you will have support and guidance from a team of experienced scientists and AI experts, along with dedicated facilities. You will also be able to interact with project teams and see real world impact across our portfolio of drug discovery projects to benefit patients.

Our Molecular Foundry is a global, collaborative team, with an international laboratory footprint. Our San Diego-based team is responsible for the lab operations in our newly established Sorrento Valley automation lab and collaborates globally on exciting challenges on our way to revolutionizing the drug discovery industry.
Requirements
Basic requirements:
- Ph.D. and 2+ years of relevant experience or M.S. and 5+ years of relevant experience or B.S. and 7+ years of relevant experience. Relevant experience may include synthetic organic chemistry, process chemistry, methods development, medicinal chemistry, and related fields
- Scientific expertise in organic chemistry, knowledge of modern literature, in-depth exposure to a wide range of purification and spectroscopic characterization techniques, and the ability to champion new chemistry directions
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a global and diverse team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Creative approach to solving challenging problems
- Excitement about the vision and mission of DeepCure to redefine drug discovery by challenging conventional processes
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively on complex problems – integrating data from multiple disciplines and engaging with a diverse group of scientists across different time zones and cultures with a strong emphasis on teamwork and communication
- Ability to work on site, full time, in our San-Diego based lab.
Preferred Requirements:
- Deep expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry with excitement to innovate using automation
- Experienced in the use of synthetic chemistry instrumentation: HPLC, LC-MS, NMR, and purification systems
- Experience with modern laboratory automation and liquid handling technologies
- A strong publication record evidencing scientific curiosity and strong communication skills
- Excited to incorporate advanced computational tools and help develop the next generation of AI workflows.
Responsibilities
In this role you will:
- Help build our automated synthesis platform to compliment our AI platform by synthesizing subsets of computationally enumerated libraries
- Develop automation-friendly chemical reactions and processes
- Create and execute strategies to protect and expand intellectual property whilst developing new approaches to the expansion of known chemical space
- Makes broad scientific contributions that have an impact on the research direction of the company
- Proactively investigate new or different technologies to improve the effectiveness of the drug discovery process
- Independently synthesize and characterize high-quality intermediates and bioactive compounds utilizing our AI platform-tools
