NEXT’s mission is to help entrepreneurs thrive. We’re doing that by building the only technology-led, full-stack provider of small business insurance in the industry, taking on the entire value chain and transforming the customer experience.

Simply put, wherever you find small businesses, you’ll find NEXT.

Since 2016, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of small business customers across the United States get fast, customized and affordable coverage. We’re backed by industry leaders in insurance and tech, and we still have room to grow — that’s where you come in.

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Workers’ Compensation Manager. You will join an exceptional and diverse group of experienced claims professionals as you lead the NEXT team responsible for WC claims handling.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead our TPA
    • We work with a third-party administrator (TPA) for our WC claims. Your primary focus will be to manage their performance for NEXT WC claims, including holding them accountable to defined service level agreements (SLAs) and fostering strong internal coordination around that relationship.
  • Lead the team
    • Our current WC oversight function supports the TPA relationship and will enable our WC leader to deliver SLA measures. You’ll own these and direct report performance to make us better.
  • Drive the present and shape the future of NEXT WC Claims
    • We see WC as fundamental to our position as a full-stack carrier simplifying seamless insurance for SMB entrepreneurs; continuous evaluation of our claim-handling approach relative to the evolution of the broader NEXT business will be an integral component of this role.
    • Similarly, we value being relentless and always improving: you will own key stakeholder relationships within NEXT (including essential, C-suite touchpoints) and beyond (think: reinsurers).
    • The WC portion of the Claims Team will continue to scale with the business and this role will also continually evaluate the service delivery model for WC claims, from the initial TPA model to a potential, future, in-house model.

What We Need:

  • A combined 10-15+ years of WC claims handling and direct WC leadership oversight, with at least 5 years of people leadership and demonstrable success driving teams forward
  • Strong technical knowledge of coverage and WC claim-handling procedures across multiple states (a national viewpoint is optimal)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required, as well as strong interpersonal, analytical, investigative, and negotiation skills; we love curiosity!
  • Proven track record of fostering positive change within teams or organizations, with a focus on innovation, autonomy and adaptability.
  • A demonstrated history of ease with numerous technical tools; the ability to learn and shape a combination of proprietary and off-the-shelf tooling (we use everything from G-Suite and Tableau internally to external, TPA-managed reporting platforms; be ready to dive in, self-discover, and drive your own development)
  • Exceptional writing and communication abilities: you’ll tailor your messaging to the stakeholders at hand
  • An owner: you value accountability and keep to your commitments; you want to build something amazing
  • Bachelor’s degree

Unstoppable Qualities:

  • An ongoing commitment to education and professional development, as shown through: a master’s degree; industry-oriented designations, such as: CPCU, PCLS/PCLA, SPPA, AIC2; other credentials
  • Holding an Independent Adjuster (IA) License as needed to handle WC in multiple jurisdictions
