As an Observability Engineer at Next, you will be responsible for shaping the observability domain at Next Insurance. This will be done by focusing on defining an observability strategy and best practices to ensure service resiliency, performance, and cost optimization.
As part of the role, you’ll be responsible for defining the following aspects:

  • Performance & Anomaly Detection
  • Data/Metrics Collection
  • Alerting
  • Analysis
  • Automation
  • Dashboards and Visualization.

Using various technologies, tools, and cloud services, your primary role will be to empower our teams to understand and address the Observability challenges our products may face. You will be instrumental in promoting a deep understanding of these issues within the engineering teams. Your responsibility will extend to planning, defining, educating, and driving and leading projects and processes to significantly enhance our products. However, the primary focus of your role will be to foster these capabilities within our engineering teams, enabling them to take our products to the next level independently.
You will be a catalyst for growth, helping our teams to evolve and expand their skills, ultimately driving a culture of performance excellence throughout our organization.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience as a SW developer in a modern engineering organization, working in a cloud environment and delivering multiple times a day to production
  • Solid experience with observability tools (e.g., Open Telemetry, Prometheus, Grafana). Passion to make an impact in those areas.
  • B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Proven ability to introduce new technologies/tools/processes in an engineering organization and to follow their adoption to full success.
  • Must possess strong management and ownership capabilities and can work independently.
  • Must be a people person, accessible, and quickly adapt to new technologies
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a proven track record.
  • Good understanding of how large-scale distributed software systems are built, deployed, architectured, etc.
  • Proven ability to independently define the scope, design, and plan high-quality, large-sized projects.
  • A significant programming language: Java/Kotlin/Scala/Go/Python
  • Good familiarity with network protocols and tools and experience with troubleshooting network issues - an advantage
  • IaaC familiarity, e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK - an advantage
  • Containers/Kubernetes - an advantage
