THE ROLE

Unit is looking to hire a People Partner for our US teams. Our mission is to design a world-class employee experience to attract top talent, foster a positive workplace culture where innovation can thrive, and ultimately support our mission.

This role is both strategic and hands-on: you’ll be involved in shaping the people agenda while rolling up your sleeves to deliver meaningful impact day-to-day. You will serve as a strategic advisor, coach, and partner to leaders and teams and as a functional expert on people & organizational issues. You will work closely with managers to drive initiatives that enhance team performance, engagement, and development while aligning people practices with our business goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and employees, supporting them in all people-related topics (performance, development, engagement, change management, and organizational design)

  • Provide guidance on employee relations, conflict resolution, and team dynamics

  • Use data and insights to proactively identify trends, risks, and opportunities

  • Champion and role model company culture and values across the organization

  • Collaborate with People team members to ensure consistent and scalable global HR practices.

  • Think creatively about best-in-class approaches to supporting, developing and retaining our talent across their employee lifecycle

  • Coach and counsel managers and employees on all employee issues; identify and clarify problems, evaluate potential solutions and problem solve

  • Support end-to-end HR processes, including onboarding, offboarding, benchmarking, compensation reviews, compliance, leave of absence management, and career development initiatives.

  • Design and implement programs that help us measure, support and improve employee engagement

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of the organization's employee benefits programs.

  • Own and maintain accurate employee data in the HRIS system (e.g. organizational changes, promotions, transfers, reporting lines), ensuring a high level of data integrity

  • Partner closely with managers on talent development initiatives, employee relations, training needs, performance management, and coaching

  • Develop and maintain employee handbooks, policies, and procedures to ensure legal compliance and cultural alignment.

  • Partner with finance and payroll to support accurate data flow and timely execution of employment and payroll-related changes (raises, bonuses, leaves, etc.)

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across multiple states

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5+ years of experience in an HRBP, HR Manager, or similar experience serving as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees in HR capacity.

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state labor laws, experience with compliance in federal, state, and local employment laws across multiple states

  • Strong understanding of employee benefits laws and regulations (e.g., ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA).

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, dynamic, start-up environment

  • Excellent coaching and consulting skills with experience supporting managers at different levels

  • Strong understanding of HR processes (performance management, development, engagement, employee relations)

  • Data-driven mindset; ability to interpret people metrics and translate into actionable insights

  • Strong communication skills — clear, concise, and tailored to the audience

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution (HR operations)

  • High level of emotional intelligence, empathy, and ability to build trust and credibility

  • Experience in driving organizational change and working through ambiguity

  • Strong project management skills, specifically organization and time management

  • Passion for building people-first companies

  • Strong business acumen and ability to understand business goals and challenges

  • Experience working within HRIS and PEO platforms with strong attention to detail in managing people data

  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and achieve goals and objectives within agreed timelines
